Every good plan needs a little bit of luck… BUT

By Gaetan Portaels

Let’s cut the crap: luck isn’t a STRATEGY.

I see too many people waiting for their “big break.”

In fact, I’ve been one of them for many years…

Waiting for the “perfect opportunity,” or the “right time.”

SPOILER ALERT: It rarely comes.

Instead, like so many, I watched OTHERS SUCCEED—climbing the ladder, landing the deals, launching their business, living the dream.

“They’re just lucky…”
“Must be nice to have wealthy parents…”
“Right place, right time…”
“Connections that open doors…”

All the truths I twisted, instead of facing my own flaws.

But when you get to a point in life where you become BRUTALLY HONEST about and with yourself, you start seeing PATTERNS…

Patterns about you, and about others.

Most of those “lucky” ones?

They were always there. Always prepared. Always following up.
It wasn’t luck. It was consistency.

SURE…

Luck can land you that unexpected call, that chance meeting, the right-place-right-time moment.

But all of that is USELESS if you’re not ready for it.

And I’m not talking about occasional bursts of effort!

I mean relentless consistency—those things you’ve heard a thousand times but may have chosen to ignore.

➡️ Wake up early. Every day.
➡️ Prep the night before. Every time
➡️ Remember names. Yes, every damn one.
➡️ Follow-up fast. And often.
➡️ OVER-DELIVER. Every single time.

I know… it’s NOT glamorous, “innovative disruption” or whatever the latest buzzword is.

It’s the basics. Done well. At scale. Without fail.

When you commit to this, SLOWLY, things start to shift…

Opportunities appear. Doors open. Luck finds you more often.

Want to beat 99% of people at the “luck game”?

It’s simpler than you think:

➡️ Show up when others don’t.
➡️ Do the work that others won’t.
➡️ Give a damn when no one else does.

In a world of shortcuts, mediocrity, and excuses, CONSISTENCY IS YOUR SUPERPOWER.

So yes, welcome luck when it comes, but don’t count on it.

Build your skills. Grow your network. Pay attention to details.

Be so good, so relentlessly consistent, that luck can’t ignore you.

That’s when you become unstoppable.

And to those who ask, “that’s great, but are YOU where you want to be?”

Not even close—and I hope I never will be.

Being alive is about redefining yourself, your dreams, and your ambitions as you travel this journey.

Best,
